Landscaping

June 2011 - Unfortunately at the present time there is no official Landscaping committee. Anyone interested in assisting with Landscaping functions and decisions is encouraged to contact the Board of Directors. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated.

The Landscaping committee is back in action. Thanks to Zoran (29W), Pam (22K) and Madeline (26K) for all their hard work. Anyone wishing to participate should get in contact with someone on the committee or the Board. As always, volunteers, comments, suggestions are welcome.

Thank you for all who attended an open meeting held Thursday May 3 2007 at 7:00 pm in the Craft room at the Thornhill Community Centre to discuss landscaping. Everyone's input and comments were appreciated.

Zoran Gadjanski also has his own blog if you want to share landscaping information and tips. Check out... [Zoran's Blog]

As suggested at the 2008 AGM, relevant sections of our Landscaping contract are provided below for anyone interested in what tasks the landscaping crew is contracted to perform. Your feedback is welcome so that we can consider revisions to the work specified in future contracts.

I suggest that our lawn should have an aeration and fertilization done soon by the landscaping company as this basic service should be included in the contract.
It helps the water and oxygen penerate into the roots, as a result less watering is needed.

Also, less weed will grow in a healthy lawn.

I already did both in my front and back lawn because I cannot stand to have my lawn in a poor condition.

Thank you for the comments and I am glad that you have taken the extra effort in your own yard. It is appreciated. The lawns have been fertilized and this service is part of the landscaping contract. Plug aeration is done as needed as well as deep root watering/fertilizing for trees and shrubs. Thanks again for your feedback.

The Landscaping Committee is back in full swing, and has been so since early May 2007. Zoran, Madeleine Nevins and Pam Young are members and have been planting the communal beds with both perennials and annuals.

I wish to express my concern about the animal feeders at the corner of Woburn Way and Kindale Way. It is attracting an ever increasing number of squirrels and birds including pidgeons. The squirrels in preparation of winter are digging holes in the neighbouring lawns and the pidgeons are fouling adjacent properties. For those of us who are a two car family, the animal droppings are becoming more prevalent.
Personally, I am extremely fond of animals and appreciate putting out food for them, but when it becomes a nuisance and a potential health hazard, it raises concerns.
Squirrels can potentially be damaging to property as they try to nest in rooves, and there is also the potential of attracting other rodents to the area.
I suggest that a limit should be placed on the number of animal feeders for all residents.

To anonimous,

I appreciate your concern, and, I am taking some feeders down.I will leave couple, with special food for smaller birds. Just curious, which animals are you so "extremely fond of"???
As for damage that animals could cause to property......so far, we had human animals causing most of the damages (and costly ones)to private property.
And, another curiosity....why the anonymity?
